About me

Hi, I'm Zach Locke. I am a software developer in Madison, Wisconsin, and currently work on the Home Health team at Epic! In my free time, I also work on side and hobby projects (three of them are on the App Store and Google Play):

StepChique is a platform I built to help connect dancers to venues, and venues to dancers. Today, it lists over 300 venues in 48 states, DC and Canada, and offers a full suite of DJ, dancer, and instructor tooling.

MusicNearMe is for live music: who's playing near you tonight. I've partnered with two music artists local to the Saint Louis area to build a platform for finding and sharing new music, and allowing artists to manage and promote their schedules.

Outpost Organization was my first App Store release, way back in 2019. I built it as a platform for my summer camp, and it has grown to support volunteer coordination, fun shoutouts for the team, a gamified scoring system, and more!

Each one is a separate full stack, typically a React Native app on iOS, Android and the web, a PHP and MySQL backend, and some boilerplate hosting underneath it.

Open anything on the desktop to look around, or feel free to write to me at zach@lockeout.com!

StepChique

A line dancing app. Find a night out, then ask the DJ for your dance once you're on the floor.

Dancers browse venues and weekly nights near them, keep a list of the dances they know, and pull up step sheets. DJs and instructors open a request session and put a QR code on the wall. Guests can request a song without signing up, and requests can go straight into the DJ's Spotify queue.

Venues claim a free listing, post their schedule and announcements, sell tickets through Stripe, and can stream live from the floor. For DJs who play from VirtualDJ, a small desktop bridge keeps the automix list and the request queue in sync both ways.

MusicNearMe

See who's playing live near you, and follow the bands and rooms you like.

Venues and bands post their shows in one place. Musicians also get a page for their act, and Jam circles help players find each other by instrument, genre and skill level.

It started in St. Louis. I build it with Andrew Jokerst, who leads design, and Kenny Garlit.

Outpost Organization

Checklists, a calendar and announcements for a camp staff, in one app.

Outpost's cleaning checklist, grouped by camp area Outpost's points leaderboard, one bubble per team

Staff work through a daily checklist for each part of camp, like the dining hall, the rec center and the pool, and admins send announcements to everyone or to one group. It also has a shared calendar, volunteer sign-ups, an inventory desk, prayer partners, a staff Secret Santa and a points leaderboard.

It shipped often: the App Store lists it at version 522.
